Growing up through the glory years of the nineties, Deepz’s childhood enthusiasm for Michael Jackson and Afrika Bambaata (and the rest of his dad’s record collection) made way for a love of the new urban sounds that shaped the decade. Pirate radio, underground raves and sonic explorations in dance music pushed this new movement forward and Deepz was caught up in the rush. Yet the innocent, hedonistic but ultimately selfish euphoria of rave culture grew up. Times got tougher and the bubble burst. But something withstood the fall out. The energy of the decade refused to burn out completely and continued to subtly guide every move he made. This is the sound of Deepz’s new LP ‘Adversity’, 11 tracks of classic jungle, d n b and breakbeat.

From his home studio in London Deepz has been crafting his sound since the early noughties, 2004’s track ‘Wolves’ crossing over to commercial radio and played on 1Xtra by DJ Bailey. With the emphasis always on finding the right groove, Deepz’s skills as a producer have developed over the years. Despite getting steady recognition and airplay in the last decade “Adversity” is the first time Deepz has bought his tracks together in one album. The Adversity project builds on a collection of ideas Deepz has been exploring since 2009. Listening to a then-untitled track on the tube after hearing some difficult news about his dad’s battle with cancer, Deepz was inspired to make his music give hope to others.
